SGPD closes investigation of former township supervisor

in Sugar Grove by

SUGAR GROVE—The Sugar Grove Police Department last November opened an investigation regarding several reimbursement checks made payable to former Township Supervisor Dan Nagel.

The Police Department recently closed that investigation.

“No prosecution will take place,” interim Police Chief Ron Moser said on Monday.

Nagel served on the Township Board for 38 years, and was elected supervisor in April 2005. He resigned from the position on Oct. 30, 2012, citing personal and family reasons as factors in his decision to step down.

According to a Sugar Grove Police Department document dated Oct. 31, 2012, township trustee Scott Jesseman in late October met with police to speak about activity that he had discovered while serving in the capacity of a trustee for the township.

Jesseman in the document stated that he had filed a Freedom of Information Act request regarding payment disbursements made to Nagel, and that there had been “several suspicious reimbursement checks made payable to Nagel from Sugar Grove Township.” The document also states that Jesseman “felt he needed to report the matter,” and that he “had some files that could substantiate his claims.”

“(The investigation) has been closed,” Moser said. He declined to comment further.

Nagel also declined to comment.
