Local residents named to Bradley dean’s list

PEORIA, ILL.—The following local residents were named to the Bradley University dean’s list for the fall 2014-15 semester: Haley Euting, Perren Palpant, Andrew Raver and Jeffrey Smith, all of Elburn; and Greg Landgren of Big Rock.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must achieve a minimum 3.5 gradepoint average for the semester on a 4.0 scale.

Wooten named to Troy University chancellor’s list

TROY, ALA.—Grant Wooten of Sugar Grove was recently named to the chancellor’s list at Troy University for the 2014-15 fall semester.

The chancellor’s list honors full-time undergraduate students who are registered for 12 semester hours and who earn a grade point average of 4.0.

Local students named to Augustana College dean’s list

ROCK ISLAND, ILL.—The following local residents were named to the Augustana College dean’s list for the 2014 fall term:

Melissa Cherry (undecided), Benjamin Hodges (biology) and Elizabeth Kupar (music education-instrumental), all of Elburn; and Chelsie Dean (elementary education), Malory Groen (biochemistry), Anna Novotny (communication sciences and disorders), Eileen Rup (undecided) and Kylie Siebert (business administration), all of Sugar Grove.

Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.

Local athlete on Central College football team

PELLA, IOWA—Kaneland graduate and wide receiver Zack Martinelli is a member of the Central College football team.

Central has captured a record 30 Iowa Conference championships with 20 NCAA Division III playoff berths, including 17 in the past 27 years. The Dutch have not had a losing season since 1960. Central is 2-1 heading into Iowa Conference play. Coach Jeff McMartin has an 81-28 (.743) record, and is in his 11th season for Central.

Siebert named CCIW Defensive Player of the Week

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.—Augustana junior libero and Kaneland graduate Kylie Siebert was recently selected as the “Defensive Player of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin in volleyball. Siebert is the first Viking this season to win the honor.

The Sugar Grove native had a tremendous week for first-year head coach Kelly Bethke’s Vikings, and it started with a great effort in Augustana’s opening match in the CCIW. The Vikings came from behind to defeat Illinois Wesleyan 3-2 (25-23; 22-25; 23-25; 25-20; 15-9) at the Carver Center on Sept. 24. In that match, Siebert had a game-high 41 digs and added two assists and one service ace.

Over the weekend, Augustana went 2-2 in the University of Chicago’s Gargoyle Classic, and Siebert piled up a total of 48 digs, 16 setting assists and six service aces. The Vikings beat Concordia-Chicago 3-0 (27-25; 25-14; 25-12) and lost to the University of Chicago 0-3 (15-25; 17-25; 21-25) on Friday, Sept. 26. The next day, Augustana beat Kalamazoo 3-1 (25-12; 25-14; 21-25; 25-15) before falling to Cornell 1-3 (21-25; 26-24; 21-25; 24-26).

For the week, Siebert totaled 89 digs (4.94 per game), seven service aces and 18 setting assists. She has been a force all season from her libero position, and she leads the team with 287 digs in 53 games for a 5.42 average. She also has 16 service aces.

Foguth of Elburn named to dean’s list

ATCHISON, KAN.—Benedictine College is pleased to announce that Rachel Foguth of Elburn recently demonstrated the academic excellence necessary to earn a place on the Benedictine College dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester.

Rachel is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Foguth of Elburn.

Any full-time student carrying a minimum of 12 hours and a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9 is named to the dean’s list. Of the 1,742 full-time undergraduate students on campus for the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year, 462 made the dean’s list.

Local students graduate from University of Iowa

Local students make North Central dean’s list

NAPERVILLE, Ill.—The following local residents were recently named to the North Central College dean’s list of scholars for the 2014 spring term: Nicholas Lynch, Melissa Schmidt and Ashley Swanson, all of Elburn; Taylor Bastone of Maple Park; and Athina Ajazi, Lauren Allen, Lauren Companiott, Drew French, Dylan Good, Brooke Patterson, Charlene Steininger and Charles Wainscott, all of Sugar Grove.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, undergraduate students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.6 for the term and be enrolled as full-time students.

Local residents make Eastern Illinois University dean’s list

CHARLESTON, ILL.—Kelsey Bishop of Sugar Grove and Andrew Hladilek of Maple Park were recently named to the Eastern Illinois University (EIU) spring 2014 dean’s list.

The dean’s list at EIU recognizes undergraduates with a declared major whose academic performance has been excellent. Students who achieve a GPA of 3.8 to 4.0 (on a 4.0 scale) while completing a minimum of 12 graded semester hours, excluding credit/no credit grades, in a fall or spring semester are named to the Deans’ List.

Urich named to Lawrence University dean’s list

APPLETON, WIS.—Amber Urich of Elburn was recently named to the 2014 Lawrence University dean’s list for maintaining a 3.4 grade point average or higher for the full 2013-14 academic year.

Urich, daughter of Robin Urich, is a 2012 Kaneland High School graduate.

Albano named to DePaul University dean’s list

CHICAGO—Nicholas Albano of Elburn was recently named to the DePaul University dean’s list in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences for the spring 2014 quarter.

Albano is a 2013 Kaneland High School graduate.
